On December 20, 2009, Brittany Murphy collapsed on the bathroom floor in her home where she lived with her mother Sharon and her husband Simon (Kranc 1). A few hours later she was pronounced dead (1). “The Clueless” actress was only thirty-two years old (1). Her sudden death shocked Hollywood and the world, prompting much speculation about her personal life, conspiracy theories about the cause of her death (1). Did her mother or husband have something to do with her sudden death or could it have been the possible mold in the house? Let’s discover what actually happened to her.

Brittany Murphy was a very determined individual. During a Us Weekly interview, she stated, “Everybody has difficult years, but a lot of times the difficult years end up being the greatest years of your whole entire life, if you survive them” (Siwak 1). This determination could be seen from a very young age. At the age of 13,  Murphy convinced her mother to relocate to Los Angeles so she could launch a professional acting career, and the move paid off quickly when the teen landed the role of Dabney Coleman's daughter on the short-lived Fox sitcom, "Drexell's Class"  (Brittany Murphy 1). This made her strive even harder for what she wanted. This was her big break, which led to lead roles in large movies like Clueless. After the success of Clueless, she starred in critically acclaimed films like Girl, Interrupted, 8 Mile and Sin City, and enjoyed a long-running voice role on the animated King of the Hill (Biography.com Editors 1).

Brittany Murphy became a very popular actress in Hollywood. She was friends with singers, actors, and film producers. A couple of people that were her friends or did roles together include Eminem, Jeff Kwatinetz, Dakota Fanning, and Joe Macaluso (Grantham 1). She also won three awards and was nominated for twenty-two awards as well. These are just a few of her accomplishments. In 2002, she was the winner of “Young Hollywood Awards” for standout performance. In 2003, she was nominated for “Teen Choice Awards” for the movie 8 Mile. In 2006, she won two different awards, “Best Animated Female” for the movie Happy Feet and also “Critics Choice Awards” for the movie Sin City (“Brittany Murphy - Awards” 1).

Brittany Murphy was a very joyful person. A close friend described her as such. “She just had an offbeat way of looking at the world and a sense of humor and sarcasm that was beyond her experience. Because she lit up a room when she came in. She wasn’t jaded. She was an original” (Dazed 1). Brittany Murphy’s personality was described as one of the greats. “Standing at barely five foot two inches, she was tiny but magnetic, with the rare ability to seem both completely approachable and disarmingly terrifying, personas she could switch on and off with remarkable ease. She had a big, bawdy laugh and acted like how you or I would act if we were suddenly in movies” (Anderson 1). She also had a lot on her mind at times. In an interview with PEOPLE a close friend mentioned that she also had body image issues. “Full of life, determined. But over the past few years, [she went] downhill. There was always something off, something in the way. She had a lot of inner demons” ( Mascia 1). "I am a bit thinner now than what I would like to be," Murphy, 32, admitted to Fox News' Pop Tarts at an event December 3 (“Brittany Murphy’s Weight” 1).

Brittany Murphy was an easygoing person. On the internet there’s an article that states that she had a ESFP personality, which means she is more flexible and adaptable. This personality type likes to just go with the flow of things (“Brittany Murphy’s Personality Unveiled” 1).In another article, she is described as a caring person that was very happy to help anyone out that she could (Personality Type Theory: Topics by Science.Gov 1). This can be seen in the ways that she spoke about acting. “It's good to play all types of personalities. Embracing individuality is one of the greatest things you can do” (“Brittany Murphy - Quotes” 1). She supported others embracing their individualities and different personalities.

Brittany Murphy was an unhappy person by the end of her life. A makeup artist Trista Jordan stated “Her eyes were so sunken, and she just seemed so sad. She wasn’t herself, she had bambi legs and couldn’t stand up and was in so much pain” (Archive and feed 1). She got kicked off of a set she was filming because of her boyfriend Simon which could have made her even more sad. She seemed quite miserable at the very end. A lot of people started to notice this, and it started to affect her career. She started losing roles in movies and other big things. She had risen so quickly and fallen so far in such a short time that even fans had to wonder what was happening. Most of her final films headed straight to video. It was a sad chapter in what had been a career filled with promise. (Block 1).

Did her mother or husband have something to do with her sudden death? It has been thirteen years since Brittany Murphy suddenly died but her brother is still searching for answers as he believes she was “taken out” (Brittany Murphy’s Brother Breaks Silence about Trying to Get Justice for Her 1).  The Clueless actress was found dead at the age of 32 in the bathroom of her Hollywood Hills home on December 20, 2009(1). Murphy's husband, British screenwriter Simon Monjack, 40, passed away in similar circumstances five months later (1).

The LA coroner ruled the deaths were due to pneumonia, anemia, and drug intoxication after dozens of prescription pills were found in the actress and Monjack’s system (1).

But Murphy's brother Tony Bertolotti believes that neither was an accident and both were murdered (1). It wasn’t no surprise she had health issues because she wasn’t eating right or taking care of herself.

He’s disgusted that her mother Sharon - who lived with the pair and was rumored to be in a relationship with Monjack - has been allowed to lie low for over a decade without revealing any answers as to what happened that night and where all of Brittany’s $10 million fortune went (1). The 74-year-old is linked to Brittany through father Angelo, who passed away in January 2019 aged 92, after spending years trying to uncover the truth about his daughter (1). Tony exclusively reveals for the first time that his father found out that there were three people in control of the estate after Brittany passed - Sharon, a newspaper editor, and a doctor she was being treated by (1).

Reports at the time said Monjack was written out of the will and the whole of the estate went to Sharon, but as Brittany’s assets were held in a trust, it avoids probate public record and her estate’s contents remain confidential (1). After some facts were proven we can rule out Simon Monjack because he also died in the same way Brittany did.

My second conspiracy is was it the possible mold in the house that could have killed her. That summer was also when the theory that toxic mold had killed them picked up steam, after TMZ reported that the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health was investigating the possibility (Inside the Endlessly Bizarre Aftermath of Brittany Murphy’s Sudden Death 1). Ed Winter said that he had talked to Sharon, Monjack and their attorney about a potential mold problem during the investigation into Murphy's death (1). Sharon said she had "never been personally asked by the Coroner or anyone from the Health Department to come and inspect my home for mold." Winter said that wasn't true, while Roger Neal backed her up (1).

Neal said that the house had been inspected two months before Murphy died and the report said it was safe to inhabit (1).  Regardless, Winter said there were "no indicators" that mold caused the deaths, and Sharon called the flood of misinformation "absurd."

Through further investigation the mold they were talking about was ruled out because they indicated that it was inspected for mold. They did the inspection two months before her death and they did not find any. So lets rule out that conspiracy and lets focus on the mother because she hasn’t been looked into very much throughout their investigation.

In the research conducted for Brittany Murphy's sudden death, her death could have been pinned on her mother who was possibly having an affair with Brittany’s husband Simon after her passing. This is what solves the conspiracy theory.
